Getting back to blogging?

So, here’s the thing. Way back I ran to be a school board Trustee in Calgary (didn’t get elected). During that time, I did a little blogging to share views with potential voters/constituents.

Now, I spend a fair bit of time on social media with the Facebook group that I administer (along with Jennifer Rokosh of Bloom Psychology) (Dyslexia Support Calgary). So a lot of my need to purge myself of thoughts about literacy, learning, and life, have an outlet there. As well, I’m active on Twitter (@SaraJPeden) and get in some bird-style debates about literacy instruction and other topics, there.

But neither are quite the same as blogging. Maybe I miss the experience of blogging, where you can be as succinct or expansive as you feel like, and not worry about silly things like having to have a particular purpose in mind for your musings! :-)

Here, on my blog, on my website, I guess I can be more ‘selfish’. Respond to topics of interest to people if they are also of interest to me. Muse about ideas in education. Rail against the universe when so inclined, etc.

As well, on the Facebook group, I make a real effort not to be political or to overlap the work I do there with fee-for-service work (like trying to use it to drum up business). But here, I wouldn’t have to worry so much about that, since people would have to seek me out to be subjected to my thoughts!

Right now, I’m working on a draft blog “Why is Change So Hard?” (ideally, with a subtitle: And what can be done about it?) which will be musings about continuity and change in public education. Let me know if you want me to keep working on it. But more importantly, let me know what topics you’d be interested in me blogging about. Not on the FB group and/or got a question that might need more than a tweet to answer? Drop it in the comments, and I’ll see if I have anything useful to say about it.

In the meantime, thanks to all of you who care about public education and about literacy in particular!

Sara
